The Sable SERIES

Forget all the post-apocalyptic fiction, learn how the covert Sable Council headed by the Campbell and Cameron families have been maintaining world order for centuries.

About the Author

Douglas R. Campbell was born in 1952 in Indianapolis Indiana. Growing up, his family moved frequently around the Midwest and eastern USA attending three different high schools in four years before graduating in 1971 from Abington HS, Abington Pa. After serving two years in the Armed Forces overseas and being honorably discharged, he attended UT at Edinburg, Texas where he studied English Literature and Mass Communications. He travelled the world extensively and resided with his family in several countries outside the USA. He currently lives in Texas with his wife Nelda and has three sons and five grandchildren.

The Story

Whence We Came by D. R. Campbell is an action-adventure tale set in the late 19th century, weaving together mystery, family loyalty, and fantasy.

The story follows Archie Campbell, a fourteen-year-old boy whose plan to take on part time work at his uncle Arthur’s lighthouse takes an unexpected turn when a mysterious accident leaves him gravely injured and in the care of Morgan Le Fay.

While recovering, Archie undergoes a profound transformation. Morgan imparts knowledge and skills to prepare him for a hidden destiny involving his family and the secret existence of malevolent beings and those who oppose them.

As Archie grows stronger, he learns his accident was not by happenstance but a deliberate act by forces seeking to prevent him from fulfilling his role in a larger struggle.

Back home, his family is consumed by grief, and the townspeople grow more fearful of Avalon Island’s dark legends. Investigators uncover strange clues that hint at a vast conspiracy, while Archie must decide whether to return to his old life or embrace a new path fraught with uncertainty.

With themes of courage and self-discovery, the story explores the boundaries of reality and the challenges of protecting the world from unseen threats.

A Glimpse From The Book

It was late March 1897 as Cline Cameron stood with his hands behind his back, gazing out the second-floor bay window of his warehouse office overlooking Boston’s wharf area. He was waiting for one man to arrive who would tell him what he already knew. Tell him he would have to order actions put in place that would change the course of lives, including his own, forever. He was determined he would not stay on the sidelines this time. This time he would take an active role in events only a few knew were about to unfold and the clock was already ticking.

Although he was the head of the most prestigious maritime law firm in Boston, Cameron and Cameron, Cline preferred the low-profile wharf area where people strived to make an honest living as opposed to the backstabbing, dog-eat-dog environment that permeated Boston’s downtown legal, political and commercial world. His office was well appointed but not ostentatious and included accommodation for him to sleep as he often did for extended periods. In fact, he considered this his home. He gladly left the management of the law firm and the high society Boston life to his younger brother Alastair.

Places

Avalon Island

Avalon Island, where the sword Excaliber was forged, and Britain’s legendary King Arthur was taken to recover after being gravely injured in his final battle in 537AD. Some say it's where he died. The island was then governed by Morgan le Fay along with her eight sisters, all of whom were skilled in the healing arts.

Once the dominant species, the ruthless, cold blooded matriarchy reptilians now live in the shadows, some believing they don't exist. The Sable Council's mission is to keep it that way, out of sight, out of mind, but preferably dead.

Author’s Note

Whence We Came has a long, story of how it came to be, but from the beginning I wanted it to be more than just another book.

I lost my mother to cancer when I was seventeen years old. And now, someone else very near and dear to me is fighting for her life. I have never seen such a brave and strong person face life threatening adversity head on with so much willpower and optimism. I hope in some small way, the characters in this story exemplify that spirit.

I would like anyone interested in reading my book to know that one dollar from every book purchase will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Cancer Foundation.

The Susan G. Komen Foundation, also known as Susan G. Komen for the Cure and The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, is the largest and best-funded breast cancer organization in the United States.

It is the only organization that addresses breast cancer on multiple fronts such as research, community health, global outreach and public policy initiatives and is why, in addition to being personally affected, I chose this foundation to support.

Depending on the level of sales, the per book amount could be supplemented with an additional annual contribution. I would like to keep The Sable Series committed to saving women’s lives.
